On Thursday 11/08/18 Indivisible South County and Santa Cruz Indivisible were called to action by MoveOn to join a national campaign to tell Trump that Nobody is Above the Law and that the Mueller investigation must be protected!
Donald Trump has installed a crony to oversee the special counsel’s Trump-Russia investigation, crossing a red line set to protect the investigation. By replacing Rod Rosenstein with just-named Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker as special counsel Robert Mueller’s boss on the investigation, Trump has undercut the independence of the investigation. Whitaker has publicly outlined strategies to stifle the investigation and cannot be allowed to remain in charge of it. The Nobody Is Above the Law network demands that Whitaker immediately commit not to assume supervision of the investigation. Our hundreds of response events are being launched to demonstrate the public demand for action to correct this injustice. We will update this page as the situation develops.
Thank you to all of you who showed up on Thursday afternoon to protest Trump’s appointment of Matthew Whitaker, and to protect the Mueller investigation and the rule of law! Over 1900 people RSVP’d (!), several hundred showed up, and we had great speakers including California Secretary of Natural Resources John Laird, County Supervisors Ryan Coonerty and John Leopold, Congressman Jimmy Panetta and Assemblymember Mark Stone (who couldn’t be there but wrote statements that were read by their staff Taylor Brenis and Andrea Eberle), and Mid-County Democratic Club founder Denise Elerick. A huge thank you to the speakers who changed their schedules around to get there on such short notice! Thanks also to Carson D. Kelly for MC’ing and to Santa Cruz Indivisible for helping plan the event and for the crowd control and awesome signage, and to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office for their courteous and friendly support of our exercise of our First Amendment rights. And a resounding thanks to Judith Gonzales, who sits on the Indivisible South County Steering Committee with me, and her husband Mike, for providing the sound equipment (and the tunes!) that made possible such a truly professional rally. It takes a village!
