PLEASE NOTE: THIS ACTION NIGHT HAS BEEN CANCELED.

The County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency has recommended cancelling or postponing large gatherings through March 22nd in order to limit opportunities for the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. In accordance with their recommendation, we will be cancelling our events until March 22nd, to be reassessed after that date. Please plan to join us on April 20th for our next Action Night. Thank you.

Eating. Sleeping. Reading. Voting. Here at Bookshop Santa Cruz, we believe that all four acts are fundamental to our lives. Join us for our year-long program, 2020 Fundamentals: Eat, Sleep, Read, Vote, focusing on taking action to impact the 2020 presidential election by helping to ensure that every eligible person votes and every vote is counted.

Bookshop Santa Cruz, in partnership with Santa Cruz Indivisible, will be focusing our efforts on the swing state of Arizona through local action that aids on-the-ground initiatives to register people to vote and help get them to the polls on Election Day. We are asking our customers to “adopt” our sister independent bookstore, Changing Hands, by taking action in Santa Cruz to support their efforts on the ground in Arizona to turn their state blue. (Read more about Changing Hands here.)

Join us for our monthly action nights on the third Monday of each month at Bookshop Santa Cruz where we will take direct action identified by community organizations on the ground in Arizona who are working to register indigenous and Latino/a voters. Then help us with efforts throughout the year including fundraisers, recruitment fairs, community book discussions on voter rights, and more.

NEXT ACTION NIGHT:
Monday, March 16th, at 6:00
Join us for our next action night at Bookshop Santa Cruz with Santa Cruz Indivisible. We will take direct action identified by community organizations on the ground in Arizona who are working to register indigenous and Latino/a voters. Then help us with efforts throughout the year including fundraisers, recruitment fairs, community book discussions on voter rights, and more.

By the end of the year, Bookshop Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Indivisible and Changing Hands commit to:

*   Mobilize 1,000 Santa Cruz County residents to take action to support our efforts in Arizona before the presidential election

*   Write over 5,000 postcards to send to voters in targeted Arizona precincts

*   Make over 5,000 phone calls or text messages to voters in targeted Arizona precincts

*   Recruit over 100 people to canvas with us this fall in swing districts

*  Hold three high profile community-wide events, including a recruitment fair, fundraiser, and canvas weekend, to support identified high needs in Arizona

We’ve always believed that books are the backbone to our democracy but we need a democracy for that to be true. The fall election is less than nine months away. We are committing our year to taking action and we hope you will join us.
