What’s the difference between a Member Activist and an Issues Team Member?
We are glad you asked! Member Activists perform actions from our action calendar. This could involve emailing a member of Congress, sending postcards to MoCs, calling their office, boycotting a particular product, or going to a city council meeting. You can spend as much or as little time as your schedule allows. If you have just 15-30 min a day you can make a huge difference being a Member Activist. Member Activists are the core of our organization and use our actions calendar to amplify the effects of our actions identified by our Issue Teams. Issue Team Members spend 3-4 hours a week working with a team on a particular issue. Issue Teams do the research and create the Actions that go on the action calendar for Member Activists to do. Santa Cruz Indivisible currently has over 30 Issue Teams that can be found on our homepage http://dev-sc-indivisible.pantheonsite.io/ So make sure to check them out under Issues for Resistance!
To join Santa Cruz Indivisible: Click on ‘About Us’ in the header and select ‘Sign up to Resist’ and fill out the online form. You can also visit our ‘Volunteer Staff’ page to get an idea of how our organization is structured.
What if I want to form a new group?
That’s great! We love to have even more people involved in our organization. If, after reviewing our existing Issue Team list, you don’t see a group listed there that speaks to you and feel that you have a new idea to contribute, please email the SCI Admin Group at email@example.com to get started.
Issue Teams are typically small groups of people (~5-10) that gather together to work on a common goal using the methods and guidelines of Indivisible. Each group and member of the group will determine the amount of time to dedicate to the group. We encourage you to make it your own. After all we are all here to make a difference!
How do I join a current Issue Team?
There are two ways to join a team:
1.From the SCI homepage scroll to the bottom of the page where all the Issue Teams are listed and click on the issue that interests you. Fill in the contact form and someone should get back to you shortly.
2.From the SCI homepage click on ‘Issues For Resistance’ from the dropdown select the Issue Team you wish to join and fill in the contact form.
I have multiple interests, what do I do?
That’s wonderful! We encourage you to be as active as your schedule allows. Feel free to participate in groups and events that speak to you. We do not limit participation. We do find that picking a few issues to focus on helps to be the most effective in your activism but we would never want to limit you!! We alway need volunteers for marches or local events and if you’re interested just let us know.
I sent an email to the group leader, but haven’t heard back yet. What should I do?
We are all volunteers and sometimes an email may slip through the cracks and we apologize if this has happened to you. We are working hard to maintain good lines of communication. How will I be notified of actions?
There are several ways that we communicate actions to our members.
1.You can sign up for our weekly mailing list on our home page http://dev-sc-indivisible.pantheonsite.io/ Just click on ‘Join Us’, fill out the short form and you will start to receive Andrew’s Actions. We may also send out periodic emails about the larger upcoming events. Don’t worry we won’t overwhelm your inbox!
2.Visit or Subscribe to our Actions Calendar by visiting http://dev-sc-indivisible.pantheonsite.io/actions-activities/ To ‘Subscribe’ to the calendar: select the ‘Subscribe’ icon found at the very bottom of the Actions Calendar that looks like the “signal strength” icon on your cell phone. This will add actions to your personal calendar.
3.If you are part of an Issue Team we use Google groups to communicate within groups. You must be added to the Issue Team in order to receive information about that group. The actions these groups take will be posted to the actions calendar so you may participate that way if you do not wish to attend meetings.
4.We also host open house events at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. We send out notification of these through our website, email, and Social Media outlets.
Great question! In order to submit an action to us you must be a Team Leader for an Issue Team. Due to our current resources we are not able to accept all requests and have tried to streamline the process by only accepting requests submitted by Team Leaders.
We try to review and post all action requests to the Actions Calendar within 48 hours.
